In the late 1970's, Bob and Patty Brower set out to fulfill their dream. Originally from the East Coast, they had a passion for wine and admired the French hospitality encountered while traveling in Europe. They saw the potential in Monterey County as a quality wine growing region, and in 1982 began building what is now known as Chateau Julien Wine Estate in Carmel Valley, California. THE PEOPLE Family owned and operated since the winery opened in 1982, proprietors Bob and Patty are blessed with a dedicated family of staff that are equally committed to the gracious hospitality and high quality wines produced at the Estate. THE ESTATE Chateau Julien Wine Estate is located on 16 acres at the foot of the majestic Carmel Valley mountains. The winery boasts breathtaking vistas of the lush green valley where sunsets are unforgettable and rainbows bounce off the hills. OUR VINEYARDS In 1996, Chateau Julien Wine Estate started a new venture with a partnership in an "Estate Vineyard" in South Monterey County's Lockwood Valley. Over 25% of the 246-acre vineyard is planted with the winery's flagship varietal, Merlot. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are also grown in addition to experimental blocks of Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Syrah, Pinot Grigio, Marsanne, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Located in a unique coastal valley on the western Santa Lucia Mountain Range, the vineyard sits at a 980 foot elevation and is a short 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard's slight elevation, diurnal temperature variations and ideal gravely, loam soil result in wines with intense varietal characteristics unique to Monterey County. With a slightly warmer climate, the Estate Vineyard continues to benefit from coastal influences and Monterey County's long growing season.
